چکیده

Thiamine (vitamin B1), which is synthesized only in bacteria, fungi and plants humans should take with diet, participates basic biochemical physiological processes a versatile way its deficiency associated neurological problems accompanied by cognitive dysfunctions. The rat glioblastoma (C6) model was used, exposed to limited environment toxicity glutamate. cells were stressed exposure glutamate the presence absence of thiamine. difference cell proliferation evaluated XTT assay. Oxidative stress (OS) markers malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) levels, as well endoplasmic reticulum (ER) 78-kDa glucose-regulated protein (GRP78), activating transcription factor-4 (ATF-4), C/EBP homologous (CHOP) measured commercial kits. Apoptosis determined flow cytometry confirmed 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining. At all concentrations, thiamine protects increased viability against glutamate-induced toxicity. also significantly decreased levels MDA, while increasing SOD CAT levels. Moreover, reduced ER proteins' it lessened apoptotic amount enhanced live-cell percentage DAPI As result, may be beneficial nutritional support for individuals predisposition neurodegenerative disorders due protective effect on cytotoxicity suppressing OS stress.

Phyllanthus Emblica Extract Protects the Rat Liver Cells Against the Toxicity of Monosodium Glutamate: Experimental Evidence

Background: Monosodium glutamate (MSG), used widely in the food industry, is a threat to the public health. We investigated whether the MSG administration depletes non-enzymatic antioxidants, i.e., vitamins C and E in the liver of Wistar albino rats. We also examined the restorative effect of the ethanolic extract of Phyllanthus emblica (P. emblica). Methods: Wistar albino rats (n=42) were ada...

Hydroalcoholic extract of Iranian Caper leaves protects hepatic toxicity by suppressing oxidative stress in mice

Capparis spinosa L. (Caper) is known as an aromatic plant, commonly used in Mediterranean diet, possessing numerous antioxidant compounds such as phenols, rutin, tocopherols, carotenoids, and vitamin C in its leaves. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of Iranian Caper leaves extract on oxidative stress caused by CCl4 in mice liver. In this study, a total numbe...

Berberine protects against glutamate-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in PC12 and N2a cells

Objective(s): Neurodegenerative diseases have been associated with glutamatergic dysfunction. Berberine, an isoquinoline alkaloid broadly present in different medicinal herbs, has been reported to have neuroprotective effect. In the present study, the effects of berberine against glutamate-induced oxidative damage and apoptosis were investigated. Materials and Methods: The cultured PC12 and N2a...

Tangeretin protects renal tubular epithelial cells against experimental cisplatin toxicity

Objective(s): Cisplatin is an effective antineoplastic agent; its clinical utility, however, is limited by a few salient toxic side effects like nephrotoxicity. This study aimed to determine the potential protective effects of tangeretin, a citrus-derived flavonoid, against renal tubular cell injury in cisplatin-induced renal toxicity of rats.Materials and Methods: Tangeretin was injected intra...

Adrenomedullin protects rat dorsal root ganglion neurons against doxorubicin-induced toxicity by ameliorating oxidative stress

Objective(s): Despite effective anticancer effects, the use of doxorubicin (DOX) is hindered due to its cardio and neurotoxicity. The neuroprotective effect of adrenomedullin (AM) was shown in several studies. The present study aimed to evaluate the possible protective effects of AM against DOX-induced toxicity in dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) neurons. M...
